The famous Austrian motorsport centre Red Bull Ring hosted this year’s second F4 CEZ round, and Max Karhan in the Jenzer Motorsport team’s Tatuus T421 was up against 23 competitors. However, the large field of drivers had new drivers in the field, but also faster competition to learn to keep up with.
Father and son on the same track
Previously Max had watched his dad Lukáš Karhan build cars at the Red Bull Ring at the age of 7. Now he was stepping out onto this famous track himself and the competition was more or less tough this time. Lukáš probably never thought that Max would one day race on this track on his own, but as they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Motivation was in the air, and so after the first introduction with the circuit and free runs, Max was rightly looking forward to Friday’s official program and managed to set the third fastest time. He certainly deserved the praise. The wish to be in the top ten in Saturday’s timed practice came true and the team was satisfied.
The first race at Red Bull Ring ended for Max on the kerb
He started the first race from the fifth row and had the potential to challenge his rivals for the top spot. However, motorsport is something you can never predict, so on lap two he was hit by a rival and ended up on the kerb. However, the wheels were spinning in the air and unfortunately the race was over for Max. It was mainly the drivers of the PHM AIX Racing team who took advantage of the Red Bull Ring to win the race as part of their testing. Davide Larini scored the most points.
The rules of the championship are unforgiving, and so Max had to start from the very tail of the 24 car field after the first unfinished race, and in both the following races. Max didn’t let this discourage him, though, and finished thirteenth in the second race and even twelfth in the third race, which is a nice result when starting from the back in such a large field. After that the team was praised and satisfied with the result.
Many thanks to all partners, without whom such results could not have been achieved.
Max is looking forward to the next F4 CEZ races, which will take place on 8-9 June at Slovakia Ring near Orechova Potona.
Keep the wheels running!
